Mario Banuelos (GMS Cohort 2008), a current doctoral student in Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Merced, has accepted a tenure-track position at California State University, Fresno (also known as Fresno State). Upon completing his doctoral studies this spring, Banuelos will teach and work with Fresno State undergraduate students on research.  Learn more about this first generation college student's commitment to the students of his hometown.
 
 
 
Writer, educator, artist, and poet are just a few of the words used to describe Tanaya Winder (GMS Cohort 2004). Currently serving as director of the Upward Bound program at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Winder still manages to find time for her first love, poetry.  Native Max Magazine recently profiled this trailblazer and featured her on the cover of their poetry issue.   
 
 
J.J. Townsend (GMS Cohort 2011) is on a mission to help communities in his home state of Mississippi.  On March 22, 2018, the University of Mississippi graduate officially launched Citizenville, "a platform similar to GoFund or Kickstarter, but more community-minded." The goal of the nonprofit organization is to "allow local citizens and sponsors to support projects that benefit the community."  Townsend shared his story and more about his vision for Citizenville with Jackson Free Press.
